[GC] Guglhupf Climbing

Die letzten beiden Märzwochen haben Jo und ich in Jordanien im Wadi Rum verbracht. Die verschiedenen Berichte, die Topos von Albert Precht und der Führer von Tony Howard versprechen ausgezeichnete Abenteuerklettereien auf Sandstein in der Wüste. Seit meinen USA und Elbsandstein Besuchen bin ich bekennender Sandsteinfreak!!!! Beim nächsten mal reise ich aber mit Stahlseilen nach Jordanien! Trotz meiner Erfahrung mit Sandstein habe ich noch nie so viele Seile in so kurzer Zeit vernichtet and das eigentlich nur beim Abziehen. Die Routen, die Wüste und die Abstiege haben uns fast alle Wünsche erfüllt. 2 tolle und erlebnisreiche Wochen! Ein paar wenige Fotos findet ihr hier Hoffentlich hat Jo bald seine entwickelt, dann gibt’s mehr. Ein kleines Tagebuch der Routen findet ihr wenn ihr weiterlest.

Day 1, 16.03.
Towering Inferno, lower section, 6b
Flight of fancy, 6b
First time our ropes got stuck, we got it the next day.

Day 2, 17.03.
Towering Inferno all the way up to Inshallah Factor, o.s., app. 6c+?
First rope ripped during rappel (not ours, we borrowed it from Marc…..)

Day 3, 18.03.
Pillar of Wisdom, 6b
The route took us 4 hours, the descent via Hammads Route also…..;-)))

Day 4, 19.03.
Tangerine Dream, 6c
Nice desert trip to the Burdah bridge.
The descent is again tricky if you come from the top and do not know the way…

Day 5, 20.03.
Rock Empire, try to o.s., but failed on the last meter of crux pitch….

Day 6, 21.03.
Rest, visit Petra with Frank from Nice.

Day 7, 22.03.
Rock Empire, r.p., 8a

Day 8, 23.03.
Ride with the Camel, 7a
Rope cover opened on both ropes during climbing and rappel.
Fortunately we got the ropes Romain left us.

Day 9, 24.03.
Glockenüberhang (Zernouk al Daber Canyon), 7a
The off width overhang is more like 7+ if you have the left shoulder in it, but superb route!
Jo had the right shoulder in the crack and did some awkward moves….;-)))!
Next rope ripped during rappel into the Col de Kharazeh.
On the 2nd pitch I got a flake onto my left big toe. Autsch, time for a day without climbing shoes.

Day 10, 25.03.
Trip to Aquabba, heal, heal, swim in red sea, drink beer, get sun burned,…………

Day 11, 26.03. Trip to Barrah Canyon with Onza and Irka our Czech friends!
A Siege of Jericho, 7a
First 2 pitches but only r.p. after preplacing a piton in the first corner.
I felt it is much harder then 7a, more like 7b+ or so.
The sun got very hot after midday so we moved to the shade.

Honte a Vous, 6a
Our ropes are totally done and just plastered with tape, Onza and Irka give us theirs.

Day 12, 27.03.
Star of Abu Judaidah, 6b
Excellent climb!

Day 13, 28.03.
Henngrint, 6c+
Petting, 7b
Mano Negra, lower part, 7b
Chicken heat, 7a+

Day 14, 29.03.
Lower part of Inshallah Faktor, 6b

In the afternoon we travel back to Amman, my flight is leaving at 2.30 a.m..
Back home in Austria, on the train from Vienna to St.Valentin I look out into 15cm of fresh snow……..
